Night Milk – The New Sleeping Pill

If you have trouble falling asleep, or long restless nights, this post is for you.

Soon, we may be seeing a new type of milk on supermarket shelves. In experiments conducted on mice, scientists have shown that milk collected from cows at night has a soporific and relaxing effect.

This “night milk” has the same caloric and nutrient makeup as standard milk, but has higher levels of two compounds:
1. 24 percent more tryptophan, a sleep inducing amino acid.
2. 10 times more melatonin, a hormone that is released by the body when we start to fall asleep.

In various experiments, mice that were fed milk powder from night harvests were less anxious and were significantly less active. Will this same behavior be translated to humans?
