Put Down The Diet Coke
October 14, 2015
If you are feeling down, one of the reasons could be your consumption of soft drinks, and especially diet colas. A study presented in 2013, followed the habits of 263,000 people aged 50 and older. Those who consumed 4 or more diet soft drinks per day were 30% more likely to develop depression than those who did not drink soda at all. Conversely, people who drank 4 cups of unsweetened coffee per day were 10% less likely to develop depression.
Keep in mind that the study proved correlation, which is not the same as causation. It could be that the people who had a propensity for depression found solace in soft drinks.
