Can a pet help you lose weight?

Do you have a pet?

If you don’t have one yet, read this and reconsider. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), having a pet has multiple health benefits:

  • decrease blood pressure
  • decreased cholesterol and triglyceride levels
  • opportunities to exercise and spend time outdoors
  • opportunity to socialize with other pet owners and to decrease feelings of loneliness.

In other words, many food related health conditions (high blood pressure or cholesterol) can be alleviated (at least partially) with the help of a furry friend. This is not to diminish from dieting, counting calories, and exercise. Rather, consider a pet as another tool in your virtual toolbox for losing weight.
